One of the most positive developments in American society has been the increased acceptance of those who are part of the LGBT community. Of course, we still have a ways to go before reaching full enlightenment and there may always be resistance in certain quarters. But still, we have good reason to believe that as time moves on things will continue to improve.
In fact, even in the traditionally conservative Lone Star State, there can be found signs of positive change. Take, for example, an event known as North Texas Pride. This annual event, recently scheduled to take place in McKinney, was started in 2011 and has experienced steady growth.
According to a North Texas Pride Committee member, that first year saw more than 225 people in attendance. Last year, more than 1,500 folks showed up to partake in the festivities. This year, the number of attendees was anticipated to be over 2,000.
The committee member emphasizes that the event has always been geared toward family-oriented fun, and is intended to give LGBT families and their supporters a place to celebrate Pride with their children. As such, planned activity included a water slide, balloon artists, face painters and a bounce house.
Everyone deserves a fun day out from time to time, and it appears North Texas Pride will continue to offer just that. But just as more same-sex families are attending an event created for their enjoyment, so too are there more same-sex parents who may experience marital strife.
If you and your partner are facing the prospect of divorce, you may want to seek the representation of an experienced same-sex divorce attorney. The attorney can work in an effort to help create a parenting plan that provides the child support and child custody terms you desire.
