Ending a marriage is a tough decision to make. It typically is not one made on a whim or just because. It takes a lot for a spouse to call it quits, as divorce is an often complex and emotional process. What makes the process even more problematic is when the divorcing couple is in the public eye. This can add issues to an already difficult time. Nonetheless, like any divorcing couple, they must get through any and all divorce issues on their plate.
According to recent reports, Billy Bush’s wife Sydney Davis filed for divorce, ending their marriage of almost 20 years. Reports indicate that the two have been separated since September. This occurred roughly 11 months following the infamous Access Hollywood tape leaks of Bush and Donald Trump.
Billy Bush is the cousin of former president George W. Bush, and after these tapes that showed Bush encouraging Trump’s lewd talk about women were released, Bush was let go from the “Today” show on NBC in October 2016. While his wife was initially supportive after these events, she separated from him less than a year later.
The couple has three children together, ages 13, 17 and 19. Davis is seeking joint legal custody and primary placement of their two youngest daughters. Because their oldest daughter is no longer a minor, custody and placement is not at issue for her. Based on court documents, Davis is also seeking spousal support. Details regarding other divorce issues have not been released at this time; however, the couple will have to sort through issues such as child support and property division.
No divorce is easy. Whether you are in the public eye or not, ending a short or long-term marriage is not easy. There are many important issues to sort through, making it vital to understand the process and what you can do to obtain the most favorable result in your matter.
