Current rate of divorces show decrease in the U.S.

As we transition to a new year, we think of all the ups and downs from the past year. For married couples, they begin to consider what can be done to better their relationship. In some cases, this means considering whether it is best to work through a rough patch in a marriage or to call it quits. No matter the reason for ending a marriage, there are some factors to consider when filing for divorce.

For quite some time, the chances of a marriage ending in divorce has been given 50-50 odds, meaning that roughly half of all marriages end in divorce. However, based on current statistics, it was found that recently between 42 and 45 percent of all marriages in the U.S. end in divorce. This means that the divorce rate has been going down.

When looking for reasons for this decrease, it was found that "millennials" are the source. It was determined that many individuals under the age of 45 have decided to only wed when their relationships are rock-solid. This means that many are not taking the plunge after dating a person for a short period of time or because of reasons such as wanting to "check boxes" in their life.

However, even when a couple waits until their relationship is solid and have had several decades of a strong marriage, there is no guarantee that it will last. Divorce can happen to anyone, no matter a person's age or the length of the marriage. It is important to equip yourself with the right tools if you decide to file for divorce. There are often many divorce legal issues to sort through, making it vital to fully understand all available rights and options.
