Abducted child found; mother taken into custody

Parents are often driven to desperate measures to be with their children. Such was the case of a mother who is believed to have abducted her child from the home of his custodial father in Hayes County. The boy had been reported missing and believed to be in danger. Authorities stated that when his non-custodial mother showed up at the home of the biological father, the family called police.

The 31-year-old woman was arrested on felony burglary charges and interfering with child custody, which in Texas is a felony. Authorities stated that the mother was extradited, and the boy was taken back to his guardian.

The 7-year-old boy had been reported missing from his Wimberley home following a visit by his mother, who allegedly persuaded him to leave his house. She then fled with him. The mother has a criminal history, according to Hays County deputies. Police were concerned about the child's health since he was without his prescription medicine.

An Amber alert was not issued, as the Texas Department of Public Safety didn't believe the case met the state requirements. According to the website for the U.S. Justice Department, there are five criteria that must met, including a belief by law enforcement that the child is danger.

The older sister and the boy were previously residing with their grandparents, according to statements by the grandfather. The missing boy was located just north of Tulsa, Oklahoma, several days after his abduction.

Some say there is no greater love than that of a mother. However, in the eyes of the law, child custody agreements are binding legal contracts and must be obeyed.
