Alicia Silverstone Files for Divorce after 13-year Marriage

Divorce, whether due to a couple fighting or simply because they no longer want to be together, requires spouses to address many issues. Even if a divorcing couple is positive and in good spirits, this does not negate the fact that an often-complicated process is about to take over their lives. Celebrity or not, married parents in Texas and elsewhere will need to address family law issues when going through a divorce.

Roughly a week after filing for divorce, actress Alicia Silverstone says that she is “doing great.” After a 20-year relationship and a 13-year marriage, the actress and her musician husband Christopher Jarecki cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for divorce, listing their separation date as March 15, 2016.

According to reports, the two respect each other and still have love for one another. Because they want to remain friends, this will help their endeavor to co-parent their 7-year-old son. The two are asking for joint legal and physical custody of him. The couple has a prenuptial agreement, and spousal support will be decided pursuant to this document. Property division issues will be decided on in the future.

Some couples seeking a divorce can do so amicably, dealing with the process together. While this is a helpful way to navigate this challenging time, it does not always end up this way. In fact, divorce can be a very hostile and emotional time. Some legal issues may present themselves during the divorce process that one might not have initially anticipated. Thus, it is important to understand your rights in the divorce process and how best to protect them.
