When is paternity assumed?

There are many children around the world who have been growing up without a father present. For that reason, it is especially important to allow a father to form a relationship with his child should he choose to be a part of his or her life. Unfortunately, even when fathers want to be present in the life of their children, they do not always get that chance. Oftentimes, before a father can start to form a relationship with his child he has to prove that he is, in fact, the father. However, there are certain situations in which paternity is assumed.

Same-sex couple files for divorce for a second time

Prior to the Supreme Court making same-marriage legal in all 50 states, there were many states that still failed to recognize same-sex marriage. With these particular states not recognizing same-sex marriage, it meant that they did not grant same-sex divorces either. With any divorce, including those that take place between a military member and a civilian or two military members, there is the chance that there will be various issues to discuss and resolve before the divorce can be granted. Topics such as property division and child support may come up, but there is also the chance that one spouse will request to receive alimony. Whether or not a spouse will be awarded alimony varies from case to case, but oftentimes, the court decides how much will be paid and for how long.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale agree on joint custody

Divorce can happen to any couple. One day they may seem happy and in love, then the next they decide that things are no longer working out. For whatever reason couples may decide to divorce, they often have to resolve certain issues before the divorce can be granted. Some couples may find that property division or alimony are the only issues that they need to resolve, but for others, child custody may be the most important thing to be addressed.
